The fee for a personalized AZ license plate is $26.96 PLUS standard registration fees. You'll also pay personalized plate fees IN ADDITION to renewal fees when you renew your tag.

Your custom tag number must:

  • Use only capital letters and numbers.
  • Have no more than the allowed number of characters.
  • NOT use profanity or be misleading.
  • NOT be the same as a license plate already in use.

Organizational & Charity Plates

ADOT offers a wide variety of plates for you to show your support for a cause, organization, or group. You can get special license plates for:

  • Non-profits and charities.
  • Colleges.
  • Emergency responders.

Fees for specialty plates are charged IN ADDITION to standard AZ registration fees and renewal fees. MOST of these plates are:

  • $26.96 to order.
  • $26.96 to renew.

Some can be personalized for an additional fee.

Charity & Non-Profit License Plates

You can buy specialty license plates to support a particular Arizona charity, cause, or organization, such as:

A portion of the fees for AZ charity plates are given to the organization or cause that the plate represents.

You can buy a specialty license plate that represents an Arizona university, including:

Emergency Service Personnel Plates

Several plates are issued for emergency responders and members of fire, police, and related organizations. ADOT currently offers plates for:

  • Families of Fallen Police Officers.
  • Fire Fighters.
  • The Fraternal Order of Police.

You'll be required to submit evidence of your membership or job in emergency services when you apply for an emergency service plate in AZ.

AZ Alternative Fuel Plate

If you drive a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, you can participate in the Energy Efficient Plate Program, which grants you unrestricted access to HOV lanes.

The program is open to 10,000 vehicles only, and plates are given on a first-come, first-served basis.

The application fee for the Alternative Fuel license plate is $8. It can be personalized for additional fees.

Military Plates in Arizona

Military license plates are available to eligible service members, veterans, and retirees.
