How to Register a Motorcycle in Florida

In Florida, your motorcycle's registration will be valid for 1 year. The process for registering your new bike will differ based on how you bought it—from a dealer, or from a private seller.

Dealership Purchases

After buying a motorcycle from a Florida dealership, the dealer has 30 days to handle the title and registration paperwork for you. The DHSMV will then send your permanent title and registration documents to you by mail.

When purchasing a motorcycle from a private seller, you'll need to complete the transfer of title and registration yourself.

Registration fees for your motorcycle vary in Florida, based on factors such as your license plate type, vehicle weight, and others. For specific fees, contact your local DHSMV office.

Below are the base taxes and fees you can expect, before your vehicle's specifics are factored in:

  • Motorcycle registration tax: $10.
  • Antique motorcycle: $7.50.
  • New title: $77.25.
  • Transferred title: $75.25.
  • Original used title fee: $77.25.
    • This is applicable to motorcycles previously titled outside of Florida.
