Passing the Illinois CDL Test There is no limit to the number of times you can take either CDL test, so don't despair. Failing the road test or general knowledge test for your CDL class will not put an end to your CDL driver dream; it will only delay it. CDL Knowledge Test If you fail the test: Three times, you'll need to wait 30 days before trying again. Six times, you'll face a waiting period of 90 days. Nine times, you'll have to wait one full year before giving it another try. NOTE: After each third attempt, you will need to pay another $50 permit fee.
