Fortunately, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration has a few convenient options for you to replace your missing or destroyed items. You may not even have to leave your house!

Order a Duplicate MD Registration
If you’ve lost or damaged your vehicle registration, you have several ways to get a duplicate. You can request a replacement:
- Online.
- By mail.
- In person.
Below are details for each option.
Online
Don’t want to wait in line? You’re in luck—there’s an easy way for you to replace your lost or damaged registration from your computer, phone, or tablet.
Visit the MVA’s online service portal and be ready to provide your:
- License plate number.
- Driver’s license number.
- Vehicle identification number (VIN).
- Title number.
- Decal number.
- Payment for the $5 duplicate registration fee.

To find your VIN, look:
- On your vehicle’s title.
- Where the driver’s door latches when it’s closed.
- Near the windshield on the driver’s-side dashboard.
By Mail or in Person
If you’d prefer, you can request your replacement registration in person or by mail.

Replace MD Stickers/Decals
There are a several options for you to replace your lost or damaged validation stickers. You can request them:
- Online.
- By mail.
OR - In person.
Either way, be ready to provide your:
- License plate number.
- License number.
- Vehicle title number.
- Validation sticker number.
- Vehicle identification number (VIN).

Online
If you need to replace your plate decals and don’t want to leave the house, you can request them online.
Visit the MVA’s online service portal and:
- Choose the “Substitute Sticker” option.
- Enter your e-mail address AND/OR phone number.
- Respond to the prompts on the following pages.
- Provide payment for the $5 sticker replacement fee.
By Mail or in Person
If you’d prefer to request your license plate or decals at your local office or by mail, the Maryland MVA has you covered.

Duplicate MD Registration Fees
The fees for replacing your vehicle registration, license plate, or tags are as follows:
- Duplicate sticker: $5 (includes a duplicate registration).
- Replacement registration: $5.
- Substitute plate: $20 (includes sticker and a duplicate registration).
