Do I need to notify the MA RMV if I donate car?
Donate Car Process You don't really need to tell the RMV about the car donation itself. But, you will need to do something with the license plates - and that involves the RMV. Before you donate a car, you must remove the Massachusetts plates. You can do a register transfer within seven days of the vehicle donation and use those plates on a recently bought new or used car. If you choose not to do that - or don't have a car to transfer the plates to - you must turn in your plates to the RMV. You can simply hand over the plates at a RMV office. You'll be given a plate receipt, which you can take to a local assessor's office and possibly get an excise tax refund. But, you can also cancel your registration/plates online at the MA RMV online branch, and print your receipt. Or, you can..

Do I have to take any written or driving tests to obtain a MA driver license?
Yes, in most cases. See which category below describes your situation to see what you need to do to get your Massachusetts drivers license. New MA Resident If you recently moved to the state and have a current, valid driver license from your former state, you don't need to take either test. Just proceed to the nearest RMV office with the proper identification. New MA Resident With an Expired License If your license expired within the past 12 months, just follow the instructions above. If it's been longer than a year, you may have to pass the written drivers license test. If it's been over four years, you'll probably need to pass both the written and road exams.
